Friends Lauren and Sidne created Healing Heels after Lauren was diagnosed with breast cancer. They have been making ladies smile with their Healing Heels ever since!
1.What/who inspired you to start your company?
Our story is what inspired us to start our company. When I (Lauren) was 26 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and on my first day of chemo, Sidne gave me a pair of 5-inch, glittery, spike-covered stilettos and said that they were my chemo shoes. Because in those shoes I was going to kick cancer’s ***. Which is exactly what I did. During treatment, my shoes were everything to me. They were a symbol of courage and strength and most importantly, something I looked forward to during treatment. Sidne and I started Healing Heels to provide that same experience to other women fighting cancer.
2.If you could have any super power what would it be and why?
I think it would be really cool to be able to teleport (I hate traffic). Sid’s would be to fly. So she could go anywhere and see everything. But we agree our #1 would be Healing Powers so we could get rid of cancer once and for all.
3.Tell us a story/incident that happened while starting or running your company that may have made you feel defeated. Now tell us how you overcame that.
We had scheduled an event to deliver shoes to all the women receiving treatment at my cancer center in Chicago. Due to some shipping problems (more like a shipping nightmare) they didn’t arrive in time and we had to cancel the whole thing. Which meant letting down so many deserving women. I cried into a Chipotle Burrito Bowl while Sidne flexed her muscle to DHL (if you can’t tell she’s the ying to my yang). Ultimately, we rescheduled the event, offered to send shoes to all the women who wouldn’t receive them on the original date and vowed never to do business with DHL again. Turns out, people are very forgiving when your heart is in the right place.
4.Have you ever been underestimated simply for being a woman? Tell us how.
We’re very lucky to have incredibly supportive people in our lives who have cheered us on from the beginning. I think as a female-run company, you run into a little of that in one way or another. But for us, we say bring it. It pushes us to be on our game and prove all those nay-sayers wrong. #thefutureisfemale
5.Are you working on any upcoming projects you can tell us about?
Yes! We are getting ready to launch a campaign with iFund Women! Which will ultimately lead to us releasing another style of shoe and some fun products down the line. We also have a few partnerships with some awesome companies in the works as well as a few events down the road. Stay tuned for all the details!
6.What are your goal with the company?
We want to line the soles of every woman fighting cancer…and then some. Our goal is to be the go-to gift for anyone facing adversity. We’ve started with cancer but we have plans to extend to all chronic illness as well as other tough situations people may be facing (divorce, grief, etc).
We will be giving away a pair of Healing Heels this Friday on our Instagram page along with one of our FIGHT halter tops. Obviously the 2 go hand in hand!
