An Eco Warrior on a Mission to Reduce Plastic Waste
Meet Emma Mable, founder of Mable Brush. Emma is a woman who saw a problem in the world and decided to do something about it! During her travels she noticed the awful impact plastic waste is having on the environment. This led her to the decision to found a company that would help people reduce their plastic footprint, and help to build a better future for the next generation. Read about Emma’s journey to create Mable Brush, and some challenges she has overcome along the way. 1. Tell us about your company?
MABLE is a sustainable goods company, that sell beautiful bamboo toothbrushes with a purpose. We’re on a mission to help people reduce their plastic footprint by providing a biodegradable alternative. Each MABLE purchase helps fund our Buy Give Teach program where we teach kids about sustainability in local schools.
2. What/who inspired you to start your company?
During our travels we saw beautiful natural places that were covered in trash and after learning more about how terrible plastic was for the natural environment we were inspired to make products that wouldn’t contribute to those scenes we had seen during our travels.
3. Tell us a story/incident that happened while starting or running your company that may have made you feel defeated. Now tell us how you overcame that.
In our first year of business we had a major manufacturing delay, where our product was not able to be delivered in time for Christmas. It meant we had to intentionally slow down our growth, which was so disappointing. On the flip side we used that “down time” to improve the quality of our product and rebuild our website and create a solid foundation for the business to grow from.
4. Have you had any unique challenges as a woman in business?
Yes, working in production and manufacturing overseas. It’s typically a male dominated field and negotiations are usually take place between two males, so we sought manufacturing partners who aligned with our mission and were fair and open minded.
5. What is your biggest fear with your company and how do you overcome it?
I try not to worry about all the things that can go wrong and instead focus on putting strategies in place that would prevent my worst fears playing out. Worrying never got anyone anywhere.
6. Please share your best piece of advice for aspiring female founders.
It’s a roller coaster ride. The lows are low but the highs are incredible. It’s remembering the high moments that get you through the bumps and challenges.
7. What are your goals with the company?
To create zero-waste personal care products that look and function better or just as good as conventional plastic products on the market. Creating a brand that you can be proud to put on your bathroom counter-top.
