Girls Who Skate and More
The Never Too Pretty movement made its way down to Encinitas Skate Park before the holidays and we learned a lot about these Girls Who Skate!
These young girls were not only at the Skate Rising event to learn how to skateboard but also to be inspired. THE MISSION OF SKATE RISING IS TO INSPIRE AND ENCOURAGE GIRLS TO RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN SELF-WORTH, STRENGTH AND ABILITIES THROUGH COMMUNITY SERVICE AND SKATEBOARDING. SKATE RISING USES SKATEBOARDING AS A CONDUIT TO TEACH CONFIDENCE, CREATIVITY AND PERSISTENCE.
Our founder, Cary Williams, spoke to the girls about going out and trying new things, even if people may say it is something that is not for girls. Yes, there are still folks out there who say such things! The girls got to share with everyone why they chose to start skateboarding and they all talked about it with big smiles on their faces.
The project the girls did was to take a piece of cardboard and write on it what they were Never Too Pretty to do or be……They all had lots to write!
Some wanted to be mechanics, engineers, dolphin trainers, skaters, doctors, surfers and the list goes on. You can see by these photos that they were all excited to share what they wanted to be!
The #nevertoopretty movement continues with events just like this and with everyone out there who shares their story on social media. Please keep sharing and spreading the movement. You are inspiring young girls everywhere to go out there and do what they aspire to do!
